Stravinsky
Firebird Suite, Infernal Dance
0:00-0:40 Impact and capture
- The piece begins as an event already in motion: strike, pulse, and orchestral glare arrive together.
- Structure starts by denying the listener a threshold. The dance has begun before the body can decide how to enter.
0:40-1:20 Hinged engine
- Repeated figures throw forward, drop back, and lift again.
- The form is not a smooth march. It is a stable pulse made unstable by attack, accent, and weight.
1:20-2:17 Weight shift and re-entry
- The first loosening changes balance more than direction.
- Around 1:45, the music finds another entrance into the same chamber: familiar pattern, renewed pressure, tighter frame.
2:17-3:40 Second hold and hardening surface
- After a brief withdrawal, the next return carries more memory because the music has already shown it can release.
- The section after 3:00 sharpens the outer skin: pointed drops, tighter build, bright flashes, and weight gathering under the motion.
4:08-4:37 Break field
- Silence enters first as interruption with continuation, then as withdrawal.
- The structure ends by dismantling its own command. The dance does not resolve; it loses the mechanism that kept it moving.
