The opening uses a few seconds of dark air before the loop fully takes hold. That matters because the structure begins by framing the groove as something entered, not something already natural. By the time the vocal arrives, the song has already proved its slow machinery.

The first verse and refrain establish the contract. Beth Gibbons names fatigue, desire, and womanhood over a pattern that never rises to answer her. The section's force is in that refusal: the plea is central, but the structure will not reorganize itself around immediate relief.
