Narration sentence highlighting is idle.

A man walks down the street already half-lost to himself: soft in the middle while the rest of life stays hard, short of attention, missing wife and family, terrified of dying without a role model and ending up a cartoon in a cartoon graveyard. He bargains for cover—if you’d be my bodyguard, I can be your long-lost pal—and invents a private renaming game, Betty and Al, as if nicknames could hold the panic still.

The song never lets that panic set the weather. A light, locked pocket keeps carrying him forward: bright horns, slap and bounce, a motor that stays comfortable while the lyrics spiral. The crisis is real; the groove refuses to drown with it. By the last street the man is foreign—no language, no currency—surrounded by marketplace noise and scatterlings, until he sees angels in the architecture and answers with Amen and Hallelujah. Midlife dread, comic dread, then sudden grace: the residue is a man who asked only for a pal and got, for a moment, the world looking holy.
