Love Will Tear Us Apart
"Love Will Tear Us Apart" says something plain and brutal: love is still present, but it has become the force that exposes the failure. The song is not about absence. It is about intimacy continuing after it has stopped being livable.
The first words at 0:26 begin with routine and low ambition rather than a spectacular wound. The refrain at 0:51 then turns the title into diagnosis: the problem is known, shared, and still happening again. Later domestic images make the failure colder because the band keeps the same usable motion under a situation that is losing use. The later question about something good no longer functioning is the song's most exact wound. It does not deny that the love was real. It says reality is not enough to make the system work. By the final repeats near 2:23, there is no argument to win. Love returns as a fact inside routine, and the track ends by letting that fact keep its shape.
