Each line names one rune from the Norwegian Rune Poem and hands down its character: Fé vældr frænda róge, wealth sets kin against kin; Hagall er kaldastr korna, hail is the coldest of grains; ice is a broad bridge the blind must be led across; the sun is the light of lands; Maðr er moldar auki, man is dust's increase; water falls from the mountain. The whole world is sorted into portable signs, each double-edged — provision and threat in the same even breath. Need makes scant choices and the naked freeze; a good harvest and the sun's warmth arrive with equal weight. It is a memory machine: an ordered rune sequence that lets a world be carried in a head.

The performance makes that function audible. For most of its length the recording holds one ritual ground — a slow frame-drum pulse under women's chant, thickening with harmony but never breaking stride — because a recitation meant to preserve knowledge does not need drama; it needs steadiness. That is the act here: naming each force in order, danger and gift alike, until the voices and drums exhale into empty room. What remains is the feeling of an inventory completed — the world read out, and briefly held.
