A boy goes to a friend's house after school, and she teaches him to dance — boogie, cha-cha, and above all El Bimbo. She holds his hands without knowing she is teaching his heart to love. That is the memory the song builds its whole world around, and it returns to the same refrain four times: hands clasped together, she had no idea she was training his heart to love for real. The first two times, the refrain is warm nostalgia — a groove you can settle into, full-band and driving, the way a happy memory feels when you are still inside it. The music gives the past a body, lets it move.

Then the years pass. They lose touch. She has a child, no husband, washes dishes in Ermita. One night she is hit by a vehicle in a dark alley. Every dream he had suddenly melts — sa panaginip na lang pala kita maisasayaw, only in dreams can he dance with her now. The same refrain comes back, but it is no longer nostalgia. It is grief dressed in the same melody, the same held hands, the same unknowing. The music does not darken or break to match the turn; it keeps its pulse and warmth, which makes the loss worse, because the song refuses to let the memory change even after the person behind it is gone. What remains is the cruelty of having loved someone fully and silently, and of learning too late that the dance was the only language that ever held it.
