Alice in Chains
Would?
"Would?" is a song about recurrence, guilt, and the ugly mechanics of returning to the same damage. The bass riff does not frame grief as softness; it makes grief circular and usable, a dark path the band can keep walking. Cantrell's contained verses and Staley's larger chorus voice turn the lyric's questions into pressure rather than explanation.
The tribute frame matters, but the track avoids clean memorial language. "Into the flood again" and "same old trip" become formal facts because the riff-world keeps coming back. The meaning lands in that refusal to escape: a plea for recognition caught inside the very pattern it is trying to name.
